| 8-30 Punta Mita Rooster Madness!
About 15 years ago I caught a small Rooster fish in Cabo and always wanted to land a big one for a photo and release. A couple friends of mine, Pargo and Joe, heard I was going to Puerto Vallarta on vacation last week so they set up a fishing trip with one of thier friends on his boat "Manana". So after a few days of relaxing at the hotel in Vallarta, I went to Punta Mita on 8-30 to see a guy named "Peecha" about going after some big Roosters. I met up with Peecha around 7am at his boat which is inside this small cove in Punta Mita. We sat in the middle of the cove while he netted some bait and after a few good thows we were off to one of his favorite Rooster spots. 15 minutes after leaving the dock I am on a 40Lb Rooster! Holy shit! While I'm fighting this beast the other line goes off! I landed enough 25 to 40 Lbers for the day by 10:30 plus 1 jack and a small Dorado that came off. All fish but the Jack were safely released. Now Peecha says he's taking me to a Dorado spot so off we went for some Dorado. Well the wind and swell really picked up and honestly, I was ready for a swim and a drink with the wife on the beach so I asked Peecha if we could call it a day. He asked " So early Amigo?" and i told him my mission was accomplished! So back we went. I spot my wife at the hotel beach so Peecha drops me off at the beach where my wife was waiting with an ice cold margarita! This guy is a great honest captain and according to my friends, will usually put you on the targeted fish. I agree.Heres a couple pics.
