Re: Tuna tube help Bullshipper G Money

To get air bubbles you have to be sucking air on the suction side of the pump. If the suction is restricted, then air comes in though the pump seal or the suction fittings that are not threaded.

Do this

Get your dive mask and brush clean or remove the pickup screen on the bottom of the boat to let in as much water as possible to the pump. Chip out any barnalcles in the pickup with a screw driver if you see them.

Make sure the seacock valve to the pump is fully open.

Retighten any hose clamps on the suction hose and double them up with another clamp if possible.

Open wide open all the valves on the tuna tubes. Do not touch them again.

Start the pump to see of bubbles in piplelies dissapear and you get a clear flow of water upwelling up the tube. Keep the PUMP DISCHARGE VALVE ALMOST CLOSED AT FIRST, and you should not see any bubbles. Open it a little bit at a time untill you see bubbles, then close a little bit until the disapear again. Thats where you leave your valve.

If you still get air it is coming through the pump seal in the pump case on the shaft.

Ball valves are real sensitive to adjustment when the handle gets close to the closed position, so a little bit goes a long ways at the end Bogii.

That pump only needs to put out about 50% of its rated capacity to power 4 tubes, so I believe you are overpumping.

Its a pain but you can also use small hooks to hold and drag your skippies on short lines close behind the boat if all else fails.

There are also hardtails that you can sabikii out at el banco on the bottom and you know where else. They will stay alive in a regular livewell.

Good luck.

Re: Tuna tube help Bullshipper G Money

Bogi I just went thru the same shit left over from last year.Jeffs right on.Your SUCKING AIR.Start with the suction side of the pump and tighten the piss out of the clamps.Add a second clamp to all fittings on the suction side of the pump.Man i dealt with this shit all last year.We have the tuna tank and a pool pump like you and a 12 volt 3700 piped paralel to the pool pump we were sucking air thru the 3700 seal so we added a shut off on the discharge side of the 3700 made a couple of changes on the suction side added a few clamps and NO MAS PROBLEMA.Jeff kept saying your sucking air i kept saying your sucking wind and UHH bullshipper was right.Ill SFU now.By the way check all your hoses.

Re: Tuna tube help Bullshipper G Money

Yah, I think Zag and Bull know more about this than I do. All I an offer is from my aquarium experience, so if BS's advice doesnt work, also check out your spaflex if that is what they are using. Make sure they used enough of the pvc cement (I prefer christies blue pvc glue) because if not enough glue is used, there could be a small enough hole where air can actualy get sucked in from, but not actually leak out. Its sort of a venturi. Happens alot in our aquarium systems, water is getting sucked in somewhere as Jeff said.

Good luck, and damn you for having too much fun down there
