| the change of seasons
You can just feel it here, today leaving the marina at 6.45 we opened up toward punta mita and about 5 minutes out of the entrance.......boom...here comes summer! A beautiful black lightning infused thunderstorm opened full fury on the Esperanza and about 15 other boats heading to the great sailfish bite that continues just off Sayulita. "Don't worry" I told the clients and that in less than an hour we would probably be in full sunshine and bent rods. Well the sun never made it out full force today but the sailfish were very active, and although we only managed 2 fish released, we did raise about 5 fish and cast liveys to a few more. With some very good results by Josh and the Aleta down south at the sand bank, and some scattered good reports coming from the rock and el banco, things look like they are priming to explode here. The fresh rains usually clear up the water and it is already in the low 80s, so I think it is only a matter of the fleet leaving the comfort of multiple sailfish days and start concentrating on BIG live bait and lots o' slow trolling. Inside the bay in front of la cruz and Bucerias, small yellowfin to about 18lbs made a showing today and a number of boats on 4 and 6hr trips scored big, charter boat Marissa boated 7 and other boats reported huge schools of bonita, false albacore, and some very small peanut dorados. These tunas can be found in the bay at times and are great on light tackle and iron. The place is loaded with bait and once the rains produce some debris, things should really start popping. Trips are starting to line up, so more reports will be coming soon. Luego

The dorado have been wide open in Mazatlan for a couple of weeks, but they are now reporting mostly smaller fish no so either the pangueros got em or they are in the move.

They typically will hang out more down near the deep trench off the mouth of Yelapa, but will chase the bait around also, so when they are found in the bay, they are very mobile and don't really hold in any certain area.....and as quickly as they can show, they can go! Jeff, a few very big dodos were boated this week, and a few palapa bouys up north of sayulita were holding some good numbrs of fish also.
