I flew down Sunday mostly to bring down some supplies, but it'd sure be nice to actually do a little bit of fishing too. Headed out Monday for Banco after picking up 30 pieces of bait. Manny decided to put out some lures about 10 miles short of the bank, and eventually we found some spinners a couple miles off the high spot. Started catching some schoolies from 15-20lbs, and as luck would have it the grade of fish pretty much stayed the same for the couple hours that we worked it. After realizing we were down to 4 good cabs left, we started throwing iron and pulling hoochies and didn't miss a beat. We loaded up and trolled to the bank. About 4 boats were there during the day and a couple of them were pretty set on hugging the high spot. After filling the tubes and putting 3 skippies out, we moved off a ways and it wasn't more than 40 minutes later that the port rigger bait got woofed. Had a pretty spectacular aerial display not long after and the marlin settled in. It was a Black and we estimated it to be maybe 400lbs. And for being that size, it was a very strong fish. 3 times to the boat, and 3 times it ran off effortlessly on a cofe'd 50wlrs. I fought him with maybe a little more than 30lbs of drag but I didn't feel like getting punished or bringing the fish in too green. So much for that thought. As Javier leadered the marlin, it did a funky twist and turn and the next thing I know 3 of the tuna tubes were gone. I won't go into too much detail, but after we released the marlin, none of us could say exactly wtf just happened. But for a slow day we were all pretty satisfied with the final results. We ran out of tuna flags and had a solid release of a marlin, and 3 friggin tubes. Pacifico leaves again Friday for 4 days of fishing. Drew
