Re: PV Poppers???

Hey Jeff...the style or colour (canadian sp) of the poppers really doesn't matter...the trick is in the retrieve...EXTREMELY FAST...and get rid of the treble hooks and replace them with Hyabusa or Owner small live bait J-hooks...

Re: PV Poppers???

Thanks Josh.

Gal and Matt bought a few of both brands, so hopefully these, along with some fast retrieved rubber flying fish will snag one when they are blasting on the surface.

Any less than 100 lb yfts around now? I was hoping I could throw these poppers with a little High Speed Jigmaster,a TLD25, or a large spinning reel , but 40 lb line pretty much regulates me to catching bait with these rigs.

Re: PV Poppers???

There are plenty of small fish around too...it's really mixed out there with everything from 30 - 300???

I am using one of my Rogue Bluewater 30# 6' sticks and an avet LX with 100# Berkley spectra and a 1' piece of 100# flouro...we got a 120#er on this set-up the other day but that is really pushing the limit...if you hook a big fish just remember to keep the rod horizontal to the water and let the part of the rod under the foregrip do all the lifting...be nice to the rod...

Re: PV Poppers???

Good tip from a guy thats there doing it. But 100 lb line is a little different than the 40 that I was dreaming about. Oh well. looks like I'm gonna farm some tackle.

But better to have been bit than shit.

Re: PV Poppers???

I don't know but i just started filling all the light reels with 100# spectra last year because it's just as thin as 25# mono or less and it has a lot of advantages to it over mono...

WARNING though...i have no thumb print left on my casting thumb...that spectra just eats you up when making long casts...a little tape on the old thumb probably would have been a good idea over the last week or so...
