Playa Del Carmen near Cancun
I have a good friend who is going there on a family trip and wants to go fishing a day or so. Anyone have any good fishing charter outfits to recommend? (or bad ones)
Thanks.

No fishing, but if your friend is capable of snorkling/diving they should checkout the Dos Ojos cavern tour.

Email Manny - his brother Carlos spent some months recently in nearby Puerto Adventuras marina. From what he said most of the fishing boats based out of Isla Mujueres. He said fishing out front of PLyaza del Carmen area not much going on - run way north or south of Cozumel.

Fly fishing

If your friend is into fly fishing, I went out with Pesca Maya. Fishing is on the flats for bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook. It was awesome, I released at least twenty bonefish and had chances for both permit and baby tarpon - just in one day.

The guide I had was Isa, great guide and really knows the spots.

Thanks Clarke. Email sent.
We spent a couple days at Isla Mujeres in 2002 on our P/C trip and the fishing was all offshore and not too consistent at that time.

And thanks for the other input guys.

In Puerto Adventuras there is a good operation called Tequila Sunrise charters? Have fished with them a few times, but it really depends on the time of year as to what you will be fishing for ie Sails in April and Wahoo in March etc. But they were fare and worked to put on some fish.

There is another one called Capt. Ricks, not run by Rick anymore from what I have heard?

Still further south is a place called Akumal. It is technically a fish reserve along the beach, but there is a panga operation out of there. The place is really cool and laid back. I would go one day to check Akumal out, snorkel with the turtles, and have lunch. At that time you can arrange for your panga for the next day. Go to the Cueva Del Pescador Restaurant (sand floor and good food) to make arrangements. They will cook your catch. The owner is the panga operator. Right out front is where all the boats from up north come for the sails. Deep water is juts a kilometer or so offshore. If the sails are not in you might just fish for barracuda or snapper, but the place is just cool. It does not take much more than 4 hours of fishing since it happens so close. Book by the hour. If you need hardcore fishing and a bigger boat the try Puerto Aventuras as mentioned.

FIshing around Playa Del Carmen

Hi
I have done a number of fishing excursions around PDC and Cozumel.
1) Unless in season trolling is an $80/ person boat ride.
2) You will get fish but only by bottom fishing(barracuda, snapper)
3) Best time for sails Mar- June. Also Dorado from Feb- June.

For the best experience go fly fishing, light tackle for bonefish tarpon and permit.

1) Pesca Maya- south of Tulum about 45 mins on sand road
- quantity of fish excellent, in my experience quality not so great
- wade or fish from boat
- 1.5 hr drive from PDC there and 1.5 back
- very pricey $450.00- $500 US per day 2 people
- Better to take fishing package for 1 week and stay in
fishing lodge

2) Cozumel - 1/2hr ferry ride from PDC. Earliest ferry is 6:00 AM PDC To
Cozumel
-wade or fish from boat ( panga)
- number of guides on internet
- I use ALEX EUAN (cozumel.net/flyfishing)
- $300US per 8 hrs ( 2 people)
- quality size fish (P.B. 8.4 lbs bone)
- english speaking professional guides
- lets you get off AI resort for one day at reasonable cost
- a really great experience
P.M. me if you have any questions. I will do best to answer

I will be in PDC from Nov. 15-22 fishing in Cozumel on 18th, 19th
