I would estimate San Lucas Cove as 10X better for kyakers, but the fishing is good if you are willing to go to the back side of the island on the days it isin't blowing- 25-60 miles.

The current wind can be a real problem in the channel (Canal de Infernio)between the beach and island. Back side of the island is exposed to north wind too.

San Carlos would be a little better than Kino as there is more Rocky shoreline close to the north marina where the yellow tail hang close in at Tortilla rock when it turns cooler, athogh you may be going a bit early this crazy year. There are also a few small grouper close into the rocks on the little island infront of the old club med, which is also not a long paddle. If you know how to sabiki makerel up, you'll have a big advantage over the yoyo, rapala and small live mullet trollers there as hardly no one fishes good live bait in these areas.

Both San Carlos and Kino have had ramps there for years and years, so you don't get the better primitive fishing like you do on the baja, where you can park your car and slide your yak down the bank to a spot that is miles and miles away from any ramp. But if you are from Ariz, I can see why you want to go closer to the mainland.

Fishing sucked...the bay has been gill-netted clean...went out to the island, but the wind picked up and had to fight 2 ft swells in the kayak and were turned back...sooo, we had a decent wekend, but the killer fish tacos were made from fish and shrimp we BOUGHT from the pangas....

Sorry to hear you got skunked. Mainland side of Sea of Cortez is VERY picked over sad to say...

PS the place to go yak fishing right now is Bahia Asuncion. Off the hook good times. Look up some recent yak posts.
