| Is my math close???
I used to like story problems but now I just guess.
Fuel at the dock in PV is 7.88 Peso per liter
We use 1043.110 Liters (two days fishing)
Then they add on a service charge of 1,421.90 Peso (dock fee and credit card fee)
So the total for the fuel was 9,642.06 Peso
Does this come out to around $2.60 US or $2.22 without the service charge????
And the final question what is diesel selling for at the gas stations?????
The reason I am asking is that if I bring my 100 gal tank it looks like I will save around $40 for each load I pump myself. Then I wonder if it is worth the bother??? I was hoping I made a mistake because I was thinking I could save $1 a gal if I pumped it myself.

Dennis, When I go down there to fuel I ask them how much is it for fuel and then when they try to add the other fee's since we have the import permit we say no and haggle with them and most times they will say OK. Also IN PV ask JT to set you up at the fuel dock! Ensenada is starting to get that way we just call ahead and talk to them first!

I think the 15% is right and it looks like 2.5% for the credit card.
The bill says: Servicio 1,232.90G
Otros Productos MN 189.00G
I also don't have a clue what the G means after the cents.

Dennis,
If you use dlls at the bank, you get a better exchange rate than at Pemex or the dock.
If you use your credit card, you also get a good rate, but my USA Visas hit me up with a foriegn transaction fee later on my statement. Its usually about 2%. Mx credit cards charge Mexicans up to 6% comissions locally.
The exchange rate is 13.35 today, so that is 2.27 at the station and $2.61 paying cash at the dock, or $2.31 at the station or $2.66 at the dock with the Visa.
The dock and the gas stations have to stay at the same price by law on a day to day basis.
So you will save about $14 if you get your own 40 gallon bottle filled, but it weighs about 300 lbs.
Your hull and engine setup are economical to begin with, so I would save my back.
If you are a buisness in mx, then you can charge back the 15% IVA against IVA you collect and write off and depreciate other expenses. But if you have no income with sales tax in Mexico, claiming the return will trigger an audit, and good luck getting your dough back.
The is also a deduction for gas and diesel where cooperativa guys don't pay road takes or IVA making it a lot cheaper than gas station gas, but again, tough to qualify.
I will check the diesel price for you today as I am back in Mexico on a job.
But the dock and gas stations all legally make a 4.5% franchise comission.
The real bitch is they steal 5.5% on volume + water added, and the 15% dock fee is illegal also.

at the dock? or roadside pemex 7.88 pesos? or is it the same before the creative marina trolls shake the gringos down 15%tie up charge? plus 2.5% c.c. fee
how bout if the boats buy ice drinks & beer from the pemex store as long as its a good order over 500 pesos per boat waive the 15%tie up fee
have the block & cube ice ready to buy & soda & cervaza's and we captains can get all our goods from your gas dock store? or give use boaters credits for yard work
haulouts repair work if we only get our Gas or Diesel from your location
have a contest and prizes every month who spends the most $$ for gas - diesel
food and ice the top 3 fishing boats not yachts can win prizes every month
from gas credits to sponsors pem-x events as in fishing tournyment sponsors
its a win win lets work the fuel docks Marina Vallerta & La Cruz and make it worth there time to see if they can be apart of the future as there many new sportfishers
coming to PV this coming year! I see a future with pemex fuel and fishing yachts ready to include you into the winning teams just like baja race cars we all need to work together as a team. Pemex Marina we need a all female cheer team to kick this special event off also your top sellar at marina pemex will be giving a spot on one of the top 3 boats as a bikini model (with photo shoot)
sexy teammate.
Pemex we would love for your company to be a part and unite
with the winning team lets get back PV fishing tourny's to wht they should be lots of entered boats all local buisness involved 100&
mucho pretty ladies that love boats and compitition

mucho pretty ladies that love boats and compitition | Steve, I would love to see that but I will not be holding my breath! As long as the fuel docks have the mentality that we need they and they don't need us I don't think things will ever change. Shoot they don't even stay open past 6pm so it can make for a short next day fishing for some. I like many was hoping that with the new fuel in La Cruz things might change and give Opequimar's a little run for their money. I guess I will be able to avoid the extra charges by filling my 200 gal trailer boat on land but I haven't even asked yet how much the launch ramp costs. Maybe you should buy the La Cruz marina???? |

7.88 p/liter roadside, and at the dock
You get the dock bill, it says 1200G (g=gasolina)
Then you see $180 (otros productos=other products=financial comission)
Then Visa charges you 2% at home (which opecimar doesnt earn)
I was in the Gas station business and can tell you that the 15% that they charge at Opequimar is completely illegal and thats why they leave the price on the pump the same as roadside stations.
The newer Barra de Navidad station did the same thing for a month, then the local navy comander complained, and it was dropped to 6% ,which is still illegal.
The marina gas in San Carlos up by Guaymas has never had a surcharge, and I am talking for over 28 years.
Opecimar also bought the Pemex concession rights at the Paridise Marina to keep their monopoly at the time, never installed to keep operational and capital costs to one station, now La Cruz is in the picture, and I do not know who owns that concession.
So everyone still has to go all the way to the main marina and use bankers hrs to fill. Thats why Osuna fills barrels on his one ton truck in La Cruz, but that station really rips you on the volume too.
I am surprized that a local guy is not using a fuel trailer to fill a large panga fuel boat under a bridge so that he could refuel boats at a lets say 10% commission (instead of 15%) before and after hrs so that guys could save dough, go earlier and stay out later, and let him make a shekle in the morn and eve. This is common proctice in the east.
The other tactic is to complain to Pemex.
