Just something to think about....
What do you guys think of all the BIG fish being caught off Cabo this year and so FEW in PV?
I think we can officially say PV had a shitty year by PV standards for big tunas.
I wonder if that early warm water pushed the fish up and out????
There's been so much bait I was just waiting for it to pop and it looks like it just ain't gonna happen this year....
Thoughts?
Discuss amongst yourselves....

I'm over the PV hype. I'll still go back eventually, but with far different expectations and game plan. Inshore is fantastic, offshore has been shit for 2-3 years now with flashes of promise. 4-5 years ago it was poppin'....no mas. PV captains have been spoiled over the past few years with the false wealth dumb Americans had (using house as ATM, good job growth, etc.) and were willing to spend down there. The prices are waaaay too fuckin' high now. Once they get back down to pre 2000 pricing again is when I'll consider spending my money there....my house is only worth 2000 prices now and most of us are making less $.
I'm trying Cabo again with somebody that KNOWS Cabo fishing and Venice, LA. in the meantime. Cabo is having 30 marlin/boat days with tunas and dorado mixed in. THAT sounds like fun!

Did East Cape, Buena Vista 2 years ago and PV last year. Sorry, I'm going to Buena Vista and going to give Texas a shot. Texas and Buena Vista will cost the same as one trip to PV.... Quote:

quit drinkin the haterade guys
PV has definitely declined, but its still one of the best damn places to have a shot at a big tuna or marlin for the money. Cabo fishing? , you are about 30 years late on that bite...a consistent bite that is... sure you can land big fish here and there..but its nothing like it used to be, and same for east cape. Sure its cheaper, and if you like catching a few small fish here and there and spend $400-600 for a cruiser, Cabo and east cape are your place.
This is what happens to all the great fisheries, they get discovered, then over populated and over fished, and turn into crap. Natural progression, especially in Mexican waters where conservation is unheard of.
I'll still do my annual trip to PV, but now that i am on the east coast I am looking forward to trying some coffee grinder fishing...Japanese style
I agree with Manny though, Ali es un gay, still Hey at leat you still got yours this year, so what are you cryin for? |

These are pelegics. Ever notice when the 300# fish show on the lower Baja banks that there are very few in PV. They are the same fish just taking a different route for many different reasons.

Discuss amongst yourselves.... | Commercial fishing impact aside - it seems all pelagic fish have large, multi-year, cyclical migration patterns. PV must be "un re-awakening" itself.
Its still a bargain for a shot at giant blues, blacks, tuna, and roosters (and a lot of sailfish when they are in the area) but it is a good deal more money than Baja, and on a per day basis, long range. I can't imagine as many people are pounding the water as years past so the comparison with years past may not be entirely spot on.
