TRU Dat remember gas and diesal is going up in mexico not down
gas after the bullshit tie up charge at the fuel dock is about 3.15$ a gallon
and diesal is 2.70
dont forget that most of the rigs down there are nice blackfins & bertrams
upward of 150k we all love this sport but it is very expensive.

Well said Bogii. This is one of the most expensive hobbies I have ever had fun doing!!! This could be a whole new thread about "how much does it cost to fish" either PV or the River. If I remember right Dave "Zig Zag" has spent $20K alone for running gear screwed up from hitting debris in the past few years and he isn't alone! I am sure a lot of owners have stories that would make a lot of us sell and be glad it didn't happen to "me". Bogii, with your engine problems that have plagued you for the past few months should be the first to start a new thread about the costs of boat ownership and all the things that can and will go wrong!! BTW/ you know me well enough to know I am not picking on you but your engine "story" should be told in full. Then on the other hand we could hi-jack Ali's post and keep it going.

Yeah, when you see the charter guys out at the rock before all the other boats in the rainy season, you have to understand that they are running in the dark on a dialy basis through a lot of river trash that can cost them dearly.
There is no way to see those dead heads IMO, and even if you do, they are too close to miss in a large boat.

I wouldn't pay anyone that much money to fish Venice...fun fishing but those prices r crazy.
I think Capt. Eddie might be about a grand..he's really good too but still not a lot less $$.
Actually the first time I fished there it was about $900 a day plus fuel so I decided to buy a boat cause at the time I had the dough and it was a lot cheaper considering I fished there often.
I don't know why i thought PV was more expensive than it is..I just recalled asking bout a charter w/one of the crews mentioned and they told me it was $1,200..at least I thought thats what they said...
PV great for the variety of species as well....I wanna spend some time catching some snapper and other stuff hanging on the rocks..

Lilharcher,
I must say that there is a big difference in 3-4 foot swells off PV and the 3-4 slop that we get in the gulf. I fish off the TX coasts all the time and I must say that I would much rather fish in 6-8's there than the 4-5's we get here. It is absolutly brutal when you are in a 20 knot wind with 4-5 at 5 seconds apart.
Also, I fished PV on two different occassions for the first time ever this year. Two days in August with Juan, and two days with Manny, and one with Juan in October. Of course we had hopes of catching giant Cows and Black Marlin, and for the "giants" it didnt happen. But we did have some great fishing during those trips, I would say a total of almost 30 tuna to 140lbs, 300lb Black, a Sail, and some Pargo. We had a great time, and I would enjoy going back. The difference in the PV fishery to the Northern Gulf is like apples to oranges. Off TX you are looking at 100+ mile runs to consistent YF grounds with some runs being upwards 0f 160NM one way. Granted when you run that far you are eliminating a lot of the competition, and increase your odds. LA fishing is anywhere from 15miles to 100 miles out for the good bite, and most tuna will be in the 40-80lb class but there are some good ones out there. Best trip we had this year was 13 YF, 3 blue marlin, 2 dolphin, 4 grouper, and some AJS. anyhoo that is just my .02

Catch22, been there done that......have fished and boated in all types of weather. I grew up working on cattle boats from Ventura and the crossing between the Channel Islands can be brutal during the winter months.......8 to 12 ft swell, 25knts of wind, short swell intervals.....washing machine conditions. Heck, I have been in weather in PV just like that (ie - BD Tuna Shootout the year prior). To compare weather conditions with limited knowledge is silly. I was just making an observation with respect to most boats sitting at the docks despite very fishable conditions. I'm sure there were boats that fished that day but most sat at the docks......and because of it, it cost me a bunch of money......just provide a warning to potential customers that their trip may be canceled for 2 - 4ft sloppy conditions (the same conditions which we regularly fish).
BTW, when we finally made it out of the harbor, I had a pleasant exerience and really liked the area......
