Venice 5-6/5-8
Fished Venice again this last weekend. Speny the first day pulling on Jack Crevelle and ended the day with a couple Cobia in the box. Good quality 40-60 #'ers. Never caught one before let alone ate any. They are tasty. MMMMMgood.
Next day was going to go long but like the first day there were capping 3-4's and to tell the truth I just didn't want to run 50 miles. Stayed inside and ended up the day w/a couple "snappa's". Again, deeeliiiccious. Not big ones like some of the 25-30 pounders I saw hitting the dock. Most of the talk though has been of small fish.
The last day I again was running south but like the two previous days I was in a quartering sea and I just didn't feel like going long. Although I knew there were quality Yellow Fin Tuna as I had seen them hitting the dock the last two days. To tell the truth, I didn't really feel like having to fight big fish, clean, package, and the rest of what goes along with Yellow Fin Tuna. That is should I have been so fortunate. There was a 3knt current and blue water everywhere and I was having a really hard time making bait so I didn't want to make the run hoping to make bait on scene. So I opted for trolling a couple rigs. Ended up going 1 for 3 on hooters. Put a nice 50-60lb'r in the box.
All in all I had 'bout 50lbs of really good fillets for my trip. Pretty good.
Of course this week the weather has turned significantly better but that is just the onset of summer. I will back at it soon enough.
