Name: B Vessel: 33 Palmetto Location: NSB Job:Consultant | Grand Isle July/August Looking for any pointers the LA guys are willing to give as to how to produce Tuna/Wahoo during 7/28-8/3 time frame. We'll have two boats (mid/large center consoles) coming into the area during this time frame.
My home base is New Smryna Beach, FL where we catch the same type of fish but out tuna are taking using high-power radar looking for birds around 95-110 nm offshore.
I was in GI November 2006 for five days and basically got shut out on tuna/wahoo due to weather and some incredibly muddy water out to 80nm. Don't get me wrong, we caught plenty of fish, just not what we were after. I'd like to make this trip a little more productive.
I am somewhat familiar with the different blocks and some rigs such as Medusa/Ursa from the previous trip. We didn't venture to Green Canyon since reports were more of the same during our trip.
Other boat is based out of Freeport, TX and would be open to putting a mate or captain on their boat one day to gain some local knowledge. I would consider it as well since I get tired of driving.
Appreciate any input. |

used to hop aboard for I think $250/day. He's a wealth of knowledged and a great fisherman. If Venice/Capt. Eddie are an option, I wouldn't screw around, I'd be contacting him ASAP as he will be booked up weeks if not months in advance. |

Name: B Vessel: 33 Palmetto Location: NSB Job:Consultant | I tried Venice in 2006 but things weren't quite back online and GI had a little more functional infrastructure. We can leave the boats in the water the house and we don't have to make the run down the river, however it is a little more open ocean running. It gives you a few more places to make bait, plus deposits have already been made.
It looks like Capt Eddie is a machine at producing nice fish but it's really not an option.
Fishing grounds from both places are fairly similar except we would have a little longer run should we want to fish east of the river. |

Name: Jeff Age: 45 Vessel: n/a Location: Houston, x. Job:Sales | I understand. I may be in GI in the next couple of weeks. May help bring one back from Mexico.
As your trip get closer, I may be able to get some up to date info on where it's happening over there. Any of the floaters should have YFT on them, the nice thing
is, if they're not at one, there's another not far off. |

I believe he will also run your boat if you want to hire him. Chris Moran (Bell Pass Marina) and Aaron Pierce (Tuna Time Charters) in Fourchon are other people that can give you good information.
I agree with Capt Eddie.....Green Canyon is the place to be!

Name: B Vessel: 33 Palmetto Location: NSB Job:Consultant | Thx Gmack. Tried to work out something w/Darryl last time I was there but our schedules didn't work out. I did however talk with him a couple hours on one of the days we were blown out in fall. I'll contact him and the others to see how things are shaping up before we get here. |
