I caught my first Yellowfin Tuna in the Gulf of Mexico about 50 miles out from the mouth of the Mississippi River. It was the first fish hooked for the day (about 10 minutes after the lines went in), and luckily it was my turn in the rotation, so I got the chance to catch it. It wasn't huge (only 35-40 pounds), but I was fortunate to get it.

The trip had been postponed once due to weather, and it was tough to find a window between storms, but yesterday was our best shot.
We almost didn't make it out of the harbor because our 32' Albemarle was overheating, but after about an hour of tinkering with the engines, the captain discovered a plastic bag that had been sucked into the cooling system.

After he put everything back together, we were on our way.

There hadn't been a Yellowfin caught in a few days, so we figured that our best chance was to catch a Wahoo, but it didn't work out that way. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Yellowfin on my line. It was the only one caught by any boat from the Venice marina yesterday.
We trolled all day long between and around oil rigs using Marauder lures, and the only other fish that we hooked was a Bonita that was lost at the boat. The water was very blue and about 75 degrees.

What a great experience!
