| Offshore Fishing in Fourchon, La on the Mule Team You gotta love it!! Great weather, great people and even better fishing!! We have made ourselves right at home at the Kajun Sportsman marina down here in Fourchon. Ever since we got the new 32' twin vee up and running we have been fishing down here and just loving it! Capt. Chris Moran is doing a hell of a job with the place!! The fishing has been on fire and I don't think we have had even an okay day since we have been in Fourchon. This past week has been more of the same results.
Tuesday capt. Jim had his limit of red snapper and ajs. Then they topped off the box with some cobia, a couple huge blackfin tuna in the 20 to 25 pound range and a few bull dolphin.
Thursday we had some guys from New Jersey on board. It was a repeat of Tuesday with a good limit of 8 to 15 pound snapper and their jacks but today the cobia wanted to party!! They finished the day with a total of 12!! I love it when that happens!! Add a few tuna which they did and you've got one hell of a catch!!
Saturday Capt. Jim and I took out Niles Landry and gang. They had their limit of Red snapper and 2 big mangroves by 9am and were ready for more. One of the mangrove s topped out at 12 pounds. Real nice fish! The cobia weren't as happy to see us like Thursday. They were there but didn't wanna eat. They would come up to the side of the boat and turn up their noses at our offerings. The crew had a shot a 3 solid fish but only managed to get a hook in 1 about 30 pounds. Unfortunately the blackfin were not home. It was then on to our limit of ajs which did not disappoint! We boated 2 ajs pushing 80 pounds, 1 at high 60's and 2 more average size ones and headed to the house.
Monday Capt. Jim and Capt. Kevin Hunter from Southbound Charters had Dan Mckenzie and family on the boat ready to catch some fish. They started out catching their Ajs and then moved on to some grouper and snapper. They said the grouper were hungry and the snapper were plain stupid as usual. They ended the day with about 5 ajs, a 60lb warsaw, about a dozen snowy and yellowedge grouper, a limit of red snapper, 8 almaco jacks, and several other bottom dwellers. That's a nice box of fish!
If you haven't been to the Kajun Sportsman marina it is convenient and first class! They have everything you need in one place. Hotel, bar, restaurant, and full service marina!! Fourchon has got it going on with the midnight lump being the same distance from Venice to even better rig fishing the further west you go and if you are serious about your tuna fishing an overnight trip to green canyon is worth every penny! It is only a 5 mile run to the Gulf which will be great when fog season roles in. We still have some dates open for summer so visit us at www.MuleTeamCharters.com to see what we are all about or call us at 504-858-0965 or 504-430-1847. |
