Planning Trip to Venice

I would like to visit Venice for the first time this summer. I understand that much of the area has been destroyed by the recent hurricanes.

Are there still any accommodations? Are there any launch ramps that still exist if I decide to bring my boat with me?

Thanks.

I was in Venice the week before Katrina. At that point, there were two, I think, hotels that were very basic and only one restaurant. This place isn't a resort. You are either there to fish or work on an oil rig. I understand that most of what was there has either been rebuilt or replaced. I fished with Reel Peace Charters. I know there are a couple of guys that post here as well. My favorite captain is Rimmer Covington and I think he is now on his own. The fishing is spectacular. Deep water is very close to shore. If weather is bad, you can always fish for Reds or Trout.

Venice Marina will fix you up. They have trailers for rent that will sleep 6 for $150 per day with a full kitchen. Boat launch, bait, gas, and ice there too. They have a grill in the bar with good eats also. Take everything with you that you will need because they haven't fully rebuilt the stores since Katrina. Phone # is 504-534-9357

Yes on the boat ramp it's fine. I don't know about pricing on the RV spots but they do have them. I wentabout a month and a half ago and had a great trip with Captain Eddie Burger. We stayed at the marina which basically consist of a little FEMA trailer but they are clean and hell it's nice to wakeup and walk 50 yards and jump on the boat. Make sure to drive to Empire about 15 minutes away and eat at the Black Velvet resturant. Excellent seafood gumbo and the seafood stuffed potato are awesome.
