...POINT LOMA YAKIN 10/29...

WELL I DECIDED TO FISH POINT LOMA KELPS TODAY. LAUNCHED OUT OF DANA POINT AT 5:30 ON A SOLO MISSION TO THE KELPS FOR SOME CALIS. ON THE WAY I STOPPED TO EAT SOME MUNCHIES I HAD AND MAKE SOME BAIT OUT IN FRONT OF O.B. PIER. NO BAIT BUT WHEN I WAS TOSSIN AROUND A PLASTIC I HAD SET UP FOR CALIS A BONE HEAD CHOMPED THAT SHIT UP, TAIL AND ALL. ANYWAYS RELEASED THE BONEY I FINISHED THE MUNCH,. I GOT OUT TO THE SOUTH END OF THE KELPS AROUND 45 MINS. LATER. NOTHIN BIT, I COULD LITERALLY SEE THE FISH DOWN THERE BUT NO TAKERS ON ALL THE COLORS I HAD. SO I TRIED SOME SQUID ON THE BOTTOM ABOUT 30 MIN PADDLE WEST OF THE KELPS FOR NO TAKERS EITHER,WTF. THEN THE WEATHER PICKED UP AND I WAS TRIFTING 10 FEET PER EVERY 5 SECS IT SEEMED. REALLY BAD. LONG STORY SHORT I GUESS NO FISH FOR ME TODAY, BUT ILL BE HITTIN LA JOLLA THIS NEXT WEEK. AIGHT PEACE...

Nice adventure!

Rather than Dana Landing try launching from Mariners Point. Make sure your time your entry and exit with the tides flow or you'll be throwing F bombs all the way back through the jetti.

My first kayak ocean outing was to Pt Loma kelp, only I launched from just south of the pier. got out easily, coming in I got pummeled

That's a loooooong paddle. Anyone ever boat their yak out to the kelp, anchor up and kayak into the kelp?

Hell of a paddle there young man. That plastic you were tossing looked familiar Your father give you that one? Too bad the fishing wasn't better. I hope you had a radio or cell phone with you on a solo run. Are you and pops fishing this weekend?

Uuhh well unfourtantly i didnt have either of those. If something happened though there was lobster traps and lobster boats everywhere I could just hold on tight to one of those trap lines and wait for a boat.

Mariners point? Where in the bay is that. Is it that little strip of beach south west of dana? Right before you turn to exit the jetti?

Re: ...POINT LOMA YAKIN 10/29...

Now I have to get you and your dad a radio for Christmas. You guys are going to break me. Mariners point is strait across from the entrance to the bait reciever and sport boat areas. The beach is behind the rocks you see while you are in the main channel. That's the area I fell into the water barefoot and landed on a bed of sea urchins. 36 sea urchin spines in my feet for 6 weeks. That fucking sucked.

Be careful out there Mr. Bones!
I've been saying for months that Mariner's Point would be a very easy kayak launch. Here's a map. You can park just a few yards from the beach.
