Redondo to Torrance to Hermosa

Yesterday started promising. I caught a nice barracuda just out of the harbor mouth. I'm on light spinning gear so the fight made it look bigger than it was. I even had a boat stop to watch.

I did Find more bonito yesterday. I'm learning about these buggers. All of them were quite small. In good conscious, I just couldn't keep them they were so small. They were stacked in among a school of small mackerel and Sardines. I know most of you guys have forgotten more than I know, but I had never caught a sardine on the sabiki. I culled some nice bait. Small Macks, both Spanish and Greenies, and some Sardines. I loaded it into my bait tube and drifted. And drifted and drifted.

Of course the sardines were toast. I was hoping that the live bait on a drop rig would get me the nod, but no love. I decided to head north hoping for better luck. My turn around point was about a quarter mile North of the Redondo Breakwall outside of Hermosa. About this time it was 10:45ish and the sea was sweet. However, the wind was freaking cold. Mental note: I need to get waders or a wetsuit.

On the way back, I kept a drop line down low bouncing the bottom and I flylined a mack. I thought that a slow and I mean slow paddle would get me some love. Baby can sometimes be bad. Not even a bite.

I hadn't flylined before. I liked how the mack would transmit when he was scared. The rod would shake and the tip vibrate. Generally, a seal would surface right after. Hoping for a bass, I got in close to the inner wall and flylined a good mack. Little bugger would swim to the center instead of enticing a bass.

I thought I would be out from about 6 to 9. I ended up packing out at approx 12:30 a.m. Free parking though!

Incidentally, I have never seen so many fisherman on the outer breakwall. On Monday night the outer wall was loaded. I mean loaded. I hope I don't see the typical trash that is left behind. Sometimes I just don't get it. Do they really want to come back to their spot and fish among the bottles, bags and cans they have left behind? It makes me proud when I come to the hand launch and generally, generally, all is clean.
I'm likely to try again for the bones perhaps on Thursday. I'm going to start early in the day because the only time I get bones is during the day time.

Then, it is all Lobstering.

those darn breakwall fisherman, they leave trash everywhere. On some weekends, you'll see parties of 20 fishing the rocks at PV. Its organized killing at its finest (however, they really don't catch much). I rescued three short bass from a fine gentlemans bucket when he wasn't looking. Take that poachers

Eff, a bit risky there. Never know what the other guy is going to do.

I know what you mean about the rock fisherman. Kills me to see the broken glass, trash and other debris that shows an utter lack of respect for the environment, and the next fisherman.

Serious outreach work needs to be done here.
