Oooops! Late report...
Left Dana Pt early Saturday with a full 1/2 scoop of the larger dines. So much for tipping the bait girl. Headed for SCI in decent seas. Water was up to 67 on the way over, and very pleasant. Found a few large paddies that held only bait. Got to the Isle and started fishing the China pt on the kelp line. First dine cast had a Cali boil on it, then nothing for hours. Tried everything to get things biting, but it was tough fishing. We ended up with a little of everything, nothing really wide open, except for Mike's goat bite. He ended up catching 6 sheephead on Sardine strip baits. Really weird. I was fishing squid strips right next to him catching Calico's and didn't get a bite from the goats. We ended up with whitefish, barries, goats, checkers, sculpin, and boneheads, everything but a cali and the sculpin released.
Fished Purse sein for tails, but only caught boneheads and Calico's. Wind one direction, ripper current the other.
Heard the Navy out there telling a Container ship that they were going to board them. Warship is asking the skipper what nationalities and what freight was on board. Skipper says he has 6 Saudies, 2 Indies on board with a cargo of fertilizer. The departing port was Abu Dabi, with a destination of Nigeria, and the boat owned by an Iraqi company in Baghdad. WTF!!!
Finally realized it was an exercise.
Ride back home was nice, gotta love the construction at Dana Pt.
