Lower 9 mile 2/8/04 :edit plus pics

Fished on my friends boat which is a 17 foot skiff (Tail Banger) on Sunday 2/8. We picked up our bait which consisted of nice small Dines and headed out of SD bay around 8:15am. It was really kind of strange. There was large back wash swells heading out to sea which were larger then the swells going to shore. We wanted to do some DEEP drops off the lower end of the 9 mile . We got to our area in about 50 minutes.

We started to make our drops with 20 ounce torpedo's in 350-480 feet. My rig consisted of Graphite 700H Calstar, Newell P440 60 pound spectra with a 40lb short top shot. I was using triple dropper loops with 6/0 Mustad with my Squid Dine sandwich which consisted of 2 small dines on each hook with squid.

We made multiple drifts in the confused sea with some mixed up wind. Our drifts were rather fast for the ledge we were fishing but we did fine. We had a few nice Doubles and a bunch of singles. We got our limits and headed back around 1:00pm.

Great day with a good friend.

You guys were just outside of us... Those seas were Fucked up! Were you having any trouble keeping bottom with 20oz? 16oz barely worked...

Yah it was all screwed up.

20 Ounce you could stick to the bottom briefly. Drift was way to fast. You would have to keep letting allot of line out to stay on the bottom.

The Hook, The fish in my left hand is not a Chucklehead/Copper. It is a Salmon Grouper/Bocaccio... Not sure why his eyes did not bug out. They live very deep and his air blatter went off but not his eyes.. Check out www.fatbait.com as there is a new IGFA Chucklehead on the home page.

Question

Any truth about the parasites in those things? How did those fillets look?

found a few

Found few in the Salmon Groupers. They were inside the stomach. The fillets looked loaded with worms however they were just fat strings or what ever you call them.
