9/9 Steve Moyer Memorial kayak fishing tournament

Great day yesterday at the Moyer Memorial tournament. I think there were over 180 yaks on the water at LJ, quite a site.

I zigged when I should have zagged, but got called into the right spot by the eventual winner (Patrick) and his friend Tyler, a very classy move. The winning Yellowtail was 29+, mine went 25.2 for second place. Long skinny fish, needed to plump up a bit.

Lots of smaller Yellowtail were weighed in but the bite seemed much slower than it has been. Jim Sammons and Matt Moyer ran a great show, and I think everyone had a good time.

Next month is the Big Water's Edge Tournament, should be an equally good time, with big money (for kayak fishing at least). Hope to see everyone there.

Big congrats to Patrick and Brad on their great days on a very slow day . All that talent on the water and less than 10yt caught I believe. Brad, you put that fish in the hatch so fast I couldn't get a pic of it OTW. LJ locals hit it big.

Brad,

Sweet job bro.

All the (few) yellow kind I've caught lately had the skinny belly too...........except they weighed 8 lbs.

Thanks for the report.

Nice fish. Figured you weigh in a nice one for the tourney.

I fished with Sherm all day. Had a blast despite being a total dumbass all day. Fell off the yak around 7:30 trying to reach back to untangle a line. Realized I was going in and bailed to keep from flipping the boat. Didn't lose anything...water was nice. Sherm got a good laugh! Missed a good bite shortly thereafter trolling over the canyon.

Sherm landed 2 in about 15 minutes off the point. Both were 10 lbs or so. Good fun to watch him try and unhook his hat from his sabiki pole while fighting a yellow.

I lost 3 baits to a dog and then had both lines go off around 10:00 only to miss the hook set on one and have the 2nd pop off after about 5 seconds. Fished like crap today but did manage to enjoy a Cristo #2 on the water.

Excellent tourney and congrats to the winners. Great raffle and BBQ. I pulled 4 t-shirts, 5 hats and some assorted swag from the raffle.

Brad,

Troy and I paddeled by you after making bait at the pier. Thought about just waiting and seeing where you were headed. Just bullshitin ya. We had a plan of attack and were sticking with it. I knew you would put something up for weighing I managed two rats on deck. I saw you dragging a large heavy bag up the hill when I arrived a Kate Sessions park. Knew I should just leave mine on ice.

Watching the look on Troy's face as he realised he was going over was fucking priceless. Worth the price of admission all by itself.

Had to light up my stoagie after that. See you at the next one.

Congrats!! Placing in any tourny is way more difficult to do than most realize. Talent is more evident when the bite is slow as opposed to a hot bite where it`s game on for all.
