Ouch...
Hopped on the Stardust 3/4 day today to Santa Rosa. Started out fishing flatties and seabass because it'd been awesome for about a week. First bait down I got bit (on 20 lb.), felt like the right kind - big and flat. Took me around the boat and through all the 30 other lines but Jason and the crew were quick to cut the tangles. Got it to color - oh yeah! easy 30+ lbs. About a foot from gaff it took a quick run out and away from the boat and chewed through. Fuck!!! Only fish hooked for the morning. Conditions had changed and we didn't have a good sign of fish so we went outside and fished rockfish. Really good fishing and quick limits for 30 in less-than-ideal weather. Lots of nice chuckleheads and reds, with about 10 lingcod to 8 lbs. in the mix. Not much consolation though for the lost barndoor.
Jason just finished some work in the bunkroom (yes, there is one!) and it sounds like he is going to start running some overnight 6 pack charters. Gonna be sweet when the albacore show up, much shorter run to the grounds than CIH! Plus Miguel, Nic, Cortez, etc. Gonna have to see if I can get a crew together...
