Huntington Harbor 3/5

My brother and I decide at about 12:00 to go fishing. pick up my boat and in the water by 13:30 hours. This will be the second time taking the boat out. This time confident that the motor will take us out and bring us back, we came ready to fish.
10 mins later we get to the end of the harbor and decide the wind was too strong and cold so lets just work the harbor.
So we start throwing some plastic at the jetty and almost instantly hookup! Nice spottie and first fish caught on the boat .
A few more swings and lots of misses.
We made a few drifts up and down the channel when my brother says there's a OC Sherriff boat comming right at us WTF?
He pulls up and asks us "What are you boys doin?" I said fishin' (duh! slap: ).
He goes "You're trespassing on Federal Property!" I go "Oh shit".
He then goes on to explaining that from the PCH Bridge to the opening is offlimits and blah blah blah. I play stupid and say Yes Sir, and Sorry Sir.
Then he asks to see my life jackets, fire extinguisher, signaling devices, VHF radio (which was on with people talking as he's asking if I have one, and this 8' fiberglass pole with a wire comming out of it is an outrigger! ). Anyway, everything checks out and he lets me go with a warning .

Back at the dock at 16:00 hours take a pic of the first fish. Sorry about the quality of the pics, they were taken with a camera phone.

He/she was released shortly after those pics were taken.
Then DFG was at the ramp asking what we caught and we said nothing of course!

It was great to just be out on the water and to pull on something.

Glad you passed the inspection, and kept the skunk off the boat.

Re: Huntington Harbor 3/5

dude

you are super lucky with just a warning. In the past right after 911 if any boat stopped that wasn't broke down was cited and escorted off the pond. That area has always been a no no for anybody. I have been inside with my fiend in his little boat but you got to get right into the rocks so they can't see you. We have since ditched this area because of the risk. It is really not that good inside brecause of all of the boat traffic. Now on the sea side between the pier and the rocks you can hang some nice butts. Thanks for the report and better luck next time.

Re: Huntington Harbor 3/5

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Just an FYI, the water was 56.5 to 57 degrees yesterday. Still too cold for the real bass action.

I'm going to try Newport Harbor next week with the big tide swings should produce some fish.

If the weather cooperates, my brother and I will be working Newport Harbor.

As for the terrorist thing , actually, I get that a lot, I guess it doesn't help that I actually am an Arab!
