| Late Report 8/7 Coronado Islands YT
Quick report....ran out to the islands early Sunday morning with a great healthy scoop of bait. Pulled up to the islands around 6:30 and decided to give Pukey a shot before joining the fleet at middle grounds. Slow trolled dines for a while and looked toward some working birds to see the right kind crashing bait. It was typical run and gun fishing chasing schools of yellows in 120-140 ft of water. Fired off a scrambled egg iron and third crank through the school it was on. Gaffed my first yellow of the season and went 18 pounds on the scale. Fished Pukey for about another hour and decided to try middle grounds. Lots of log barries and one farmed fish that definetely had some size. Trolled down the south island to the pens with no love and saw 100+ birds on the outside chasing bait. Ran outside to find bonita and macks chasing an enormous bait ball. Had some fun with the same iron and decided to go back to Pukey for one more shot. It was about 2:00 now and while slow trolling they showed face again. I got set up perfect and fired my same iron which practically hit one of these yellows in the grill...two cranks...one splash...and a heavy fish was on the fight. This fish had some serious pulling power. I had my drag buttoned down tight and it put up a great fight on an 8 ft Seeker jig stick. After 10 min we had another yellow hit the deck. This one went 29 pounds on the scale. Finally some fish actually showed for me at the islands. The morning bite seemed to be producing the majority of feeding fish. Great day on the water with little swell and not to much wind. Sorry no pictures...only had a 35mm camera on the boat.
Keep em bent...Im out.
