| Santa Cruz-Anacapa Gap 4-17
Late Report. Caught limits on rockfish. We didn't take any pics, there really wasn't much point. Ran out of CIH. Slight fog at 6:30. Smooth fast ride out. WFO bite on the rockfish. Hot depth for us was 180-220 feet, anywhere near a big depth change. Caught 1 treefish, 4 reds, 6 blue rockfish, and 9 Starrys. The Starry's were huge for starry's but a starry is a starry, never very big. None of our fish were over 3 pounds. Use huge baits to keep the dinks off the line! Swell was very long period, not steep, but a few 5-6 footers rolling through. No wind, left the gap at 2:00 out of the water at 3:15. Beautiful day on the water, but dang even those slight breezes are COLD. Love those new bouys, Anacapa passage, Pita's point, give you a good idea what it is like out there, and Santa Barbara East gives you full data, but is always rougher closer to Pt. Conception. Overall swell model was dead on, not good pattern for Chinese Harbor, with the swells pushing right into the beach, thus the decision to go rockfish huntin.
