D-II at SCI

We all had a great time. The weather was awesome and we couldn't ask for better conditions...

A group of friends went on the first overnight trip for the D-II out of Islandia. Great skipper and crew. We had pre-departure cocktails and fish stories at 8pm, boarded at 9:30pm and headed out. We all geared up and all hit the sack early, anticipating a good ealy morning bite.... Dreams of "Ghosts" were on MY mind...
Conditions were Perfect for the ride out. Water was as clean as can be, deep Blue. Early morning found us at shelter on the east side, anchored up near shore. There were a few of us fishing while the crew rigged up the squid lights. They never showed, but HUGE schools of mackies and sardines were under the boat.... Looked like the right conditions for fishing. A few minutes passes by and this big dude, Chris, landed a solid 20+ lbdr of a Halibut.... caught on a fish trap tipped with squid strips...
As the morning progressed, we pulled anchor and drifted for bottom dwellers. We all had fun pulling up small to medium rockies....
The afternoon found us near the kelp paddies and pyramid point, fishing for bass, Yellowtail or the elusive WSB.... They never showed... arggggg.......

Oh well, we had a great time anyways. The BD'rs had a side pot going and NOAH's Tackle threw in $50.00. Anyways, Mikey won the sidepot with a 3.5# Lingcod....

Great fishing with friends, old and NEW, and building new relationships.
It was an awesome trip on the D-II and signs of good things to come.

I'm sure the rest of the gang will chime in...

Special thanks to NOAH's Tackle for the $50.00... won by Mikey with his Lingcod... along with the rest of the side pot. Way to go Mikey!!!!

The CREW of the Dolphin II are TOP Notch.... Thanks Pete, Greg, John & Nick for a pleasant ride...

PS: Mikey & Chris sleeping together, cute, huh... Dreamin' on there ??????? :jo: :jo: :jo: :jo: :jo:

I notice that in most of the pictures Chris has his new friend next to him.

This was such a fun trip while we did not get into a yellow or WSB bite it was fun. This is what fishing is about relaxing and having fun with old and new friends. The tailgate was something really nice and a first for me at Islandia. Somehow BPFED always gets picked on but he has the greatest attitude about it. The side pot was cool and something to do in future trips, I came in two ounces short to the odds on favorite. Big props to Mike for the win and whoever predicted him as a 2-1 favorite. I think everyone got their fill of Rockfish and OW.

The crew did a great job as always and it was great to break bread with you guys on the way home.

Thanks for the fun trip.

Well, the enviro's wouldnt be happy with our trip. We put a serious hurtin on the bottom fish.

Met up for the pre-boarding party, mucho cervasa all around........It was great to put a face with all the BD'ers I had not met. Way cool guys, as Mots would say, all of them.

Prolly the newest BD'er, Gus (JoJo Jarhead), S P A N K E D the ocean whitefish.......he is the OW masta! (he outfished us at least 2 to 1).

I wasnt doing crap with my fancy multi hook gangion, except tangling up others, so that thing is destined for my wall of fame. Switched to a standard 2 hook dropper and my luck took a turn for the better.

Mid morning, I hooked a fish, then felt a big WHAM, and used the yellowtail killing skills I aquired from Micha (HOW2FISH) to pull the "yellow" up off the rocks, turned out to be a nice Ling. ( I watched Micha "short pump" 2 B I G yellers up off the bottom at 'lupe, so of course I had to have an accurate 665; its a very sweet tool that works.)

Anyway, up to the surface comes this ling, I think its a hitchhiker, Pete sprints for the gaff, I feel sick as I watch the ling open its big mouth and the tiny starry moves away.......Pete gives it a quick poke and its a ling on the deck. Turns out it was hooked also....went 3.3 or 3.5 on tha spring. Im thinking dinner......

we moved around to a few more drifts......really cleaned up on the whitefish, Johny bass, JTAP landed a log barracuda, tons of tiny starry's....quite a variety.

weather was awesome. not a breath of wind in the morning, and by noon, the slight breeze was very welcome.

Yesterday was just what the doctor ordered, I needed to get out and I had a great time with the brotha's. Great comeraderie.......nice ocean, good fishing...........ahhhhhhh yes!

I cant say enough good things about Pete and crew of the Dolphin II. I never even unhooked a fish, either Greg or John were right there every time a fish came over the rail.....Skipper Pete was out on deck most of the morning as well. These guys work HARD to make sure the passengers have a good time. There were a couple of first timers aboard who I noticed got lots of attention from the crew, nice to see that.

Yeah, I won the pot by a few ounces with my Lucky ling, left the boat a nice tip and I'll be seeing you guys at Noahs real soon.

Thanks Paul for putting this together, glad I "let you" talk me into going......

we might have to organize a tuna trip with these guys when the fishies get here.......

Thanks all, I had a blast!

Well said Mikey.

Aweome time had aboard the D-II. Excellent crew, very helpfull.

Conditions were great! Fishing was good on the bottom critters. Unfortunately no WSB or Yellowtail. Still a great time was had by all.

It was great sharing the rail with you guys and bullshitting on the way in. (Even though I slept a good part of it)

Looking forward to doing it again.

Thanks to Paul for setting it up. Thanks to Noah's for the bonus! Congrats to Mikey on the JP!

Enjoy the tacos fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
