Went out with Capt. Ron on his 7A to 5P halibut freelance on the F/V Point Loma once again. Started off right getting some kick ass chovies and seeing none other than Ali. Got the goods and off we went. Last two trips I made on this run I grabbed the jack, but this time I was regulated to the side.
Got on the boat at a leisurely 6:45, with Nunya, her friend Kristi (sp. Maggie?), bro-in-law John, his nephew Joe, my girl Blondie, and my great friend Wayne (no not that one).

Made our first stop, and got nada. Thought that bird from Ali was for good luck, guess it was a jinx bird, thanks Ali. [JK Ali! Was your day great too?]
Then we found out it was 'that guy', brought his own double stacked 5 gal buckets with padded top, commenced to introducing himself as a great fisherman, and we find him in the bow eating bananas! WTFO! So we broke his eggs, and he starts talking shit to Capt. Ron. So we escalate, and Capt. Ron is super cool, gets on the speaker and tells everyone about why bananas are verboten. We get 'that guy' to finish his comida and bail the peels, then bingo, next drift and we are on the board.
It's great to see Wayne up and around, he's had a real long 2 years. Had a stroke, shoulder surgery, diabetes took part of his right leg, from the knee down, so I'm super stoked he could make the trip and keep his balance. Some of you from San Diego of old might remember him, he is the 'hobbit of San Marcos'.
Anyway, we grabbed everything today:
Ling Cod
Halibut
Sandra
Calico bass
Calico rockfish
Sugar bass
Gopher Cod
Sculpin
Cab drivers
Rubber Lip perch
Brown rockfish
Vermillion rockfish
Starry rockfish
Moray eel
Starfish
Purple Uni
Prickleback
Dog shark
Tree fish
Guitar fish
Sheephead (both kind)
Chucklehead
and a rock with a palm kelp attached
We fished local, down IB way. Here's Nunya showing how the pro's handle a tangle, thanks Cassie! (she makes a mean burger too!)

And I don't remember this kid's name, but it was his birthday. I'd guess that he was the top stick, with limits, and the biggest smile.
It was a great day on the water, lots o' fish and fun. Crew was great, thanks Capt. Ron, Brian, John and Cassie. Lots of laughs with good friends.
Guys, this is the local boat to ride, Capt. Ron has over 214 legal halibut this season. He knows how to fish, and the ride is inexpensive at $66.
Besides, he puts on events for the kids, on August 22, he is hosting the 2nd annual Crystal Kid's Pier Classic. check it out at
