Texas/Gulf of Mexico Report w/pics

Took a long weekend trip with my family to visit some friends at their new fishing camp house near Port Aransas TX. The weather was hot and humid and the water temp in the back bays was around 87 degrees.

Fished with my friend Ross and Cpt. Randy aboard Ross's 18ft Red Fin center console. We caught an assortment of Speckled Seatrout, Red Drum, Flounder, Ladyfish, Gafftopsail Catfish and a bunch of Hardhead Catfish. Most fish were caught on live shrimp and some on live finger mullet. We called it quits around 1pm when we could not bear the heat anymore.

On Saturday we fished for King Mackerel about 6 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico from Port Aransas. We trolled for about 4 hours using triple hooked dead Ribbonfish for only got one quad hook-up, unfortunately on came unbutton and 2 others sawed each other off when they were hauling a$$ after the initial hook set. I have never heard clickers scream so loud and at such a high pitch as when those Kings did when they attacked out bait. Fortunately for me, I got mine to the boat. Here I am with my 29 pound King Mackerel.

Here is one of the tasty nice size Bluefin Crabs that I caught off Ross's dock. Yumyum!

I had a great time fishing the Gulf of Mexico again and can't wait to make it back down there to do some offshore fishing for Amberjack, Red Snapper and Cobia. HOOK-UP!!

Way cool report bro. How do those Kings fight? I've been tempted while at San Felipe to run over to there Island and fish for the Kings. But haven't got the courage yet to travel 18 mi in a ponga. Maybe I'll do it next time.

Wow, six miles out, huh? I'm in Houston visiting my dad for the next week, we've done some speckled trout wading in the bay, and those hardhead cats, and even a bluefin crab almost as big as yours. Looks like we might have to go pursue some of those Kings. The local guys said that the dorado are only about 15 miles out also. I'll let you know how it goes, thanx for your report.
