| Late Fishing Report Sorry for the late report; however you are going to get two reports in one. My friend Keith and I took out the 195 Defiance skiff out last Wednesday to check out the local calico spots and to do a little recon for the “Wall Banger Tournament” which was held this past Saturday. We got on the water around 7:00 p.m. and fished the wall for approximately 40 minutes and found fishing to be non existent. We decided to make the run out to the “Shoe” to start sizing up the local calico fishing. Most of the local structure was void of life and current. We looked at some of the “Community Spots”, IW, Georgia Straits, Southeast, Jewfish Rock, and there was no current or bait on any of the spots. We made a move up the line towards Fermin to a little patch of hard rock bottom and found a little more life. We hooked a nice fish and it came unbutton near the boat. We continued metering around looking for squid, seabass and checking out some old lobster spots from years past. It was nice to see there were no hoops on some of the lobster spots. I am guessing another month or so before the bigger bass are going to start getting eager to eat the live mackerel on the outside structure spots, so stay tune. On to the “Wall Banger” tournament, as always it was a great kick off to the tournament season and it was nice to see all of the diehard tournament bass guys again. Fishing was very tough and it appears that everyone was struggling to get their three fish limit. We fished all of the standard lures, cranks, grubs, and bottom bouncers and came away with 8.1 pounds for three fish. This was good enough for 6th place and 2 ounces out of the money. The amazing thing to me is the amount of private boaters out hooping. In one stretch (maybe 100 yards) there were four boats and three kayaks. Hooping has come a long way from 20 years ago, when it wasn’t the “In Thing to Do”. Out of the four hoopers, I spoke with only one who had a legal lobster. th place and 2 ounces out of the money.
