Late, late LJ report

Really late... just found my camera's cable, so I could download these pics from Saturday, Aug. 1. I figured since the reporting has been slow, at least some new fish photos might be appreciated.

The short of it is the first Yellows on my boat, Pumped Up! Mike Mann joined me after a 5 year hiatus living in the Arizona desert. He just unpacked two days before and was itching to fish the ocean again. Launced from MB at 6am, bought crappy, small dines and anchovies from the bait barge, and headed out. We decided to hit the south kelp and find bait, which we did (4 greenies and 8 spanish). Being kayak fishing guys, we knew that would last a while for us, so we trolled a couple of greens in 100+ ft paralleling the kelp and near the surface bait we could see. Mike kept commenting on how great it was just to be out again, and how he didn't care if we caught anything as gorgeous as it was.

My line went off about 7:45am and turned into the 22 lber. Mike's went off as I was gaffing my fish. Got the shot of him casually fighting his fish with the cigarette hang out his mouth, like it was just yesterday that he was out doing this. His went 17. Both caught about the slack tide.

When we left the dock, he had told me he was going to curl up in a fetal position position if he actually caught a fish. Glad I didn't have to witness that! Caught a few bonies, but these were the only "right ones'!
