Local WSB w/Pic

Headed out of Dana Point at 4:30 am Sat 6/23 with my brother and 2 friends to find the local Yellowtail and WSB. We picked up some fresh dead squid, and a scoop of nice dines with about 4 perfect mackies mixed in. Got to the spot at about 5:30 and there were already 10 boats around with 4 hanging diving flags. We wanted to stay away so picked a spot that looked pretty good, but not what we really wanted. Oh well that's weekend fishing. Set up 4 different rigs. 1 with a white Tady 4/0 and squid, 1 with a dropper loop and squid, a fly lined sardine and fly lined mack. 30 mins in we decied to try and make more macs so we spooned some cat food in and got a few spanish macs. Transferred them to the tank and the reel with the fly lined mac starts to go off. Friend grabs it and sets the hook. Fights to keep it out of the kelp and we put the first ghost aboard the boat in it's 3rd year of fishing. One more hookup on the flylined dine, line go's straight under the swimstep and friend tries to jump the engine cover and goes down head first. He kept the rod in his hand and then loses it to the kelp. F...ing hilarious. 43 boats and the weather came up so we were out and back at the dock by 12. :imgay:
