middle grounds, 425, 302, 9mi. 6/17

got bait at eb, threw em a five dollar tip and had high hopes for either albies or paddy yellows. just as we left the mouth at pt.loma, engine dies, dead, no spark, I had a extra incap coil, but it was the module which i didn't have with me. get a ride back in from VA and orion, goes and gets a module from auto zombies, we get it in, she fires right up and off we go, it's 11:30 now. we head staight for middle grounds. got one sand bass and orion farmed a possible yellow, water was 66 deg nic and blue. we drifted south flats for wide open sealions and decided to take our chances heading 12 miles southwest to the 425. saw other boats trolling, we kept going looking for paddies, turned for the 302. DID NOT SEE ONE PADDY, turned for the n.nine to fins working birds, we stop and i go to the bottom and flyline, well i reel my bottom rig up about 3/4 of the way and it goes bendo, i fight this thing for 15 minutes with 20# pline and i drag up a mola mola i tail hooked, those big eyes looked at me and i felt really bad so i pulled the hook out and let him swim away, poor thing, I swear he looked tired. so at least i kept my fighing bones oiled for next trip. got one red from the 9 and headed in, it's like 7:30 now. long day, lots of fuel for nothing, owell, orion had a great attitude when we broke down, he didn't quit and either did I and we still got a days fishing worth despite breaking down, he's a great crew hand. BTW when we first got to middle grounds there was nobody there, then this boat powers straight for us and turns 50' from us, we has let our bait swimm really far and we got a double hookup of a fing trophy boat, dude frayed like 100 yards of my new izor line, all i can say is what a fing dip shit. My recomendations, stay tuned for a tommy report, and don't do what I did. STEEL LEADER OUT

A for effort. Hard to keep a good attitude for me after a long run with little catching. You missed your chance on Mola Goo. Good call. Tight lines!

I got a late start and went to the 302 (reached it at 10 a.m.)yesterday and focused on the southern half and saw no patties either. I did however meter lots of activity 30 ft. down on the southwestern part of the 302 but wasn't able to bring anything up. Decided to cut my losses and headed back.

Water was pretty sloppy and the weather was gray.

I talked to someone out there that had spotted many patties on the northern part of the 302.

Late starts have never worked out for me. I believe gray light to 9 a.m. are golden and if you miss that your in for a long day.
