Limited load 3/4 day

I ran the Pt Loma the last two days 3/4 day. Saturday was a great charter group and we caught 12 Yellowtail to 20 pounds and barracuda down the beach inside the islands. Today we had an open party group and fished the same area for 9 Yellowtail, a 30 pound but, some barracuda and some sandbass. The sandies are getting ready I will bet in the next couple weeks they will start to bite real good down there. 26 and 10 will put you close.

There were a lot of skiff and pbers down there as well. (some asshats without a clue and others that seemed to do well on their own).
If you go down there just be aware of what is going on around you approach sporties slowy and from downwind...dont get too close, shut down and drift soak your baits... you will catch. also look for your own bird works by the time you (not all of you) run through our chum line and race up to us it is probably over. Look for picking terns and gulls, approach slowly when you get close and get fresh baits on you will do much better. Worst case just pull long drifts or slow troll dines (really slow). Good luck

This coming Saturday Steve and Fred have put me on Ltd. Load 3/4 day 16 people 110 bucks (includes permits). This has never been done but a few of you may remember awhile back when I mentioned it in a different forum. There seemed to be some interest so we are trying it. If you are interested call PLSF 223 1627.

PS if this is in the wrong forum sorry please put it where it belongs.

Re: Limited load 3/4 day

What VHF channel do the sportboats chat on? Would you mind if I listen in once in a while?

Hi ahidog,

Geez .... thanks for a 'from the horseys mouth' great report. That's got some excellent 'content' value. Don't fish SD but will watch for your reports. Interested in how fast the Sandies are gonna start their move up to and around the 'Flats' and the 'Shoe'.

Know you're a pro but one pet peeve of mine provokes a question. Limited load 16 anglers ... means 16 anglers + regular crew ...... minus deadheads, minus guys working for a spot on the boat, minus crews buddies, minus buddies of one of the 16 anglers, minus dogs, cats, and parrots!!!!

Right?

Re: Limited load 3/4 day

This trip will be limited to 16 anglers, one captain, one cook and one deckhand. That's it. We don't play the deadhead game.

The only possible extras in this situation could be my two kids (7&9) if something unexpected happens with our sitter. Most weekends my wife watches them but this Saturday she is working. Other than that 16 is it.

I know there is a huge amount of DHing in the LA area but if we are running a ltd load and exceded that load with DH's we would not get out for long. When we are open we will take a freind or a crew member from another boat but they are NEVER to fish the stern and and best be willing to hand off a fish from time to time if they are knowledgable anglers.

Wow that is a question I feel like I cannot answer because I am only one of many captains. I will say that you can get me on 16 and I would be happy to let you know where I am fishing that day on another channel. To actually put the channel that different boats use in different areas would affect more than just me, otherwise I would tell you.
