Father & Son Tag-Team-T 5/28/07

Since the OAC Thrasher Tourney a few weeks ago my son Devyn has been bugging me to get back out and try to get another Thrasher. He said he wants to try and get one by himself. I say OK, but they can pull pretty hard. Think you can handle it? He says sure I'm pretty strong and I really want to get one. So off we go Monday AM around 7:00am. On the way out of the Harbor I here reports of WFO Barracuda by the Barn Kelp so I ask Devyn if he wants to fish for the Barrie's first or go straight to T-trolling. He says fooey to the slime balls lets go get me a T. We started off of Carlsbad and worked it till about 11:00ish with no luck so I decided to wind-em in and run down to the Domes and work the area where Cooter got his the day before. Around 2: 30 we finally get a double knockdown but they both don't stick. We boxed that area and got our hookup at 3:00 I took the rod out of the holder for Devyn an said here you go buddy. And the started clearing the lines. Then took a few pics of Devyn pulling on his fish. About this time he starts saying I think this fish is pretty big dad maybe you should take over for a while. OK are you sure? Ya I'm getting tired dad. So Take it over and this fish starts handing me my ass. I forgot to mention that the fish picked the wrong rig unfortunately it was on the Penn 4/0 with #50lb. P line. So it took almost 3 and a half hours to land this fish. I made Devyn take one more quick turn somewhere in there just to feel the power of these magnificent beasts. We landed her around 6:30pm. Some guys on a Boston Whaler that was watching us came aboard and helped get it in the boat. At the scales around 7:30 the fish weighed out at 225lb. I thought she might be bigger but still not to bad. I think my son had a great time even if he couldn't do it himself. He did a great job handling the boat for me chasing the fish. Took him a little while to get the hang of backing the boat down but soon he was doing it like a pro. I'm sure it was a day he soon won't forget.

Damn........................great looking fish there Devyn. Way to get the boy out there on his first pull on a thresher Mark. You and Devyn have been putting lot of time on the water and it's paying off for ya. Like Rob said.........thing looks a lot bigger than 225. Doesn't matter..........the fight is what it's all about. Some damn good eats also...........just got done eating some myself. Congrats to both of ya.

Curtis...........

The boat Hanna.........
