Launched at the shores mon morn about 7, easy bait everywhere. Loaded the tank and off to the races.
Saw some guy straight fall of his boat head first with all his clothes on unintentionally... classic to say the least. Watched him struggle to get back on by himself and dry off, 30 min later he was fishing again... good show old man!
Trolled flyliners and weighted grennies for nada, switched to slow trolling brokentail minnow lure around 9ish, couple bonito and that was it. Trolled the kelp line to 115 ft of water. Bait boiling everywhere... very fishy and birds working smaller areas.
Went out deeper along a 100 ft ridge, 10 oclock and the light lure goes off... eh, another fiesty bonito, not........ 15 lb test on a ugly stick with kmart spinning reel. 3 minutes in, fish charges up to take a look at the boat. All I see is big brown toad and its back to the sea floor for another ten minutes or so... then a young local takes interest, fu dogs!!! Fish was still kicking our asses so I gave the dog a few dead macs in hopes he would be distracted, and he was...
Few minutes later and the dog heads back, put the hurt on the fish and crank him up, missed gaff shot followed by close call and sink it in just in time to pull the fish from the young sea lions teeth!!!!!!!! fIRST WSB ON DOS BALLENAS! Ever!
aNYWAYS, kept at it for two more hours, stopped in 110 ft off the hotel and dropped down a mac. 2 seconds later yellows break the SURFace everywhere keyed in on a small school of bait, reel my mac up quick and get one good cast for nada and they were back down. The Yellowtail came up again two more times out of range in about 15 min intervals. Saw a baby thresher landed by a yak, and a small Yellowtail. No tail for us so we call it a day.
nap time followed by bbq and back at it tues... HOW different a day can be, bait was gone, only smelt to be found, no sign of the tail or the ellusive ghosts. A few bonito and that was it, landed by 2:30 to pinner surf. Beautiful day on the bay, both of them that is, and thats why they call it fishin.
dos ballenas out,
till next week.........
