| Del Mar 30lb Yellow
Three of us left the Oceanside harbor at 9am with a full scoop of sardines. Huge bait balls off of the power plant. Most I have seen in a long time. We trolled around for a while for nothing. Saw the New Seaforth fishing just off of Fletcher's Cove in Solana Beach. Fished there a bit, but nothing happening. Moved down to Northwest La Jolla. About 10 boats working the area. Quite a bit of bait in the water, but nothing happening on the surface. Got one ling cod that was one inch too short. Fished inside for awhile for nothing. Headed back up the coast again around noon. Stopped just north of Del Mar Kelp, right off of Fletcher Cove. The guy with the spinning rod from Target gets bit on the surface with a lively sardine with an egg sinker. After about a 20 minute fight we gaff a beatiful 30 lb yellowtail. Five minutes later we get a nice 5 lb calico on the bottom. No other bites, no birds working, water a bit off color, but we obviously made our day. Trolled off the power plant for thresher for about one hour, but no takers. Water about 62 degrees. Back to the harbor by 4pm. Overcast all day on the water, but flat calm. The sun came out for about ten minutes. Interestingly enough, that is when we got the yellow. Camera phone pictures taken, but I have not received them yet. Still waiting for the fishing to break loose. Maybe a few more degrees.
