04/03 LJ info

Well, weather looked too good to pass up so I and the boys headed back out to LJ today. Late start. We are on vacation so I'm not waking up early for noth'n.

Anyway, we hit the far side of the Canyon and hit the spots I marked on Sunday. No bait, all Gulp swimmers and squid. First drop, Zane get's a Sculpin. I give him the "don't touch that thing" speach as what I thought would be a reminder. Nope, my bad, I totally forgot most of my boys experience has been offshore. There first trip out was for Albie's and it's been mostly offshore for the last 3 years for them. Well, rock on, another first. After that, tons of macs from 200-270'. THICK and they loved the Gulp squid. I dropped down the sabiki and it filled up instantly. From just off the bottom to 30'+ or more. Small, probably 9" or less. Remember, I'm a white boy so my estimate might be a little off. We made several moves but could not get away from them. We even found them up in 100' and less. I dropped one down with a stinger hook for not so much as a rake. I'd say we worked it pretty good but some serious kite flying from the top of the boat interupted things a bit.

Ended the day with enough taco meat for a couple meals and had a great time out with the kids.

Yes, but we "found" it in Mexico and it's now on the GRILL!
