What a difference 2 days make...

Last minute decision to go buggin on Saturday afternoon turned out to be a good one - called a couple of buddies, but no one could make it, so I made a solo run to Cat. Got to my spot at around 5, took my time baiting up and started setting around 5:20. Started pulling at around 5:45(impatient!), and got 4 in the first net (3 legal) 1 short in the second, 2 legal in the third, 1 more in the fourth and 4 in the fifth! Limit by 6:10 Since I'm over my limit the last net doesn't go back down. By the time I got the first four nets back on board I have thrown 15 obviously legals and 5 or 6 borderlines back.

With the thrill of victory still fresh, I couldn't resist trying to go again last night - and that decision wasn't nearly as good... later start, bumpier ride across, didn't set the first net until 6:30, windy, blah, blah, , and of course not a single bug! I have never been skunked at this spot, and rarely go home without limits for 3 within 2-3 hours. The only thing I could manage were spider crabs - although I got one that was HUGE with blue legs. This thing was so big he was hard to get out of the conicle net with his legs spread out. I have eaten king crab legs smaller than this guy. I wasn't sure how long he would live in an ice chest (I wouldn't have been able to deal with him until today after work), so I chucked him along with 4 or 5 other decent sized ones. Got home cold, beat up and disapointed. Oh well, next time...

Nice job getting some bugs onboard! Was the tide that different that they wouldn't crawl?

Re: What a difference 2 days make...

Tide was a little higher, but it was moving about the same, maybe they crawled early, I didn't drop my first net Monday until after I had already started home on Saturday.

Solo buggin takes a little more patience, but it's still pretty easy. Big thing is waiting between pulling the 5th net and starting over on the first. When you've got ten nets (for me at least) by the time you finish with the 10th one it's time to go back to the first, but with 5 nets you gotta wait a few minutes. Wind makes it a little tougher as well.

i go buggin in o'side a lot and it seems lik the more current and the bigger the swells the better they crawl.

Good Job on the bugs at Cat, I know how good it can be... I was also hooping solo Saturday, stayed local and only managed 5 legals. If you're going to run over to the island solo again, let me know....
