Labor Day Not So Labor Free / Catalina

Well I decided to end the summer by taking my parents and sister out to the island for some fun. Ended up working my ass off. We swam, went into avalon and had a great time. The fishing was not all that great but here is a summary of how it went. Headed across in really crappy conditions large wind swell, white caps and 10-15 kts of wind out of the north made for an absolutely miserable crossing. We got the living crap kicked out of us. Although it did not roll the already weak and pretty beat up bait did not fair to well in fact most everybody who went out offshore in a smaller skiff ended up at avalon in the PM to escape the wind and in talking with them most of them said that they had all their baits roll. I managed to scrap a good dozen or so of the mini macs before leaving for the Yellowtail bite I had been hearing about all week. Excited as all hell knowing the potential we started along the frontside at Long Point to avoid the weather and worked toward Toyon. Wide open Bonito and Slimesticks. Calico bass were tough the current was ripping uphill kind of weird thought LP would have bit real good on the bass with the given conditions but nobody home. Water was nice 71-72.9 and blue. No Yellowtail caught or seen all day but my family was stoked and really that is all that matters. Cant wait for this FALL fishing season and a BIG THANK YOU in advance to all of you guys that hang up their gear for the winter.
