5/27 long beach breakwall

Despite the weather report, couple of my buddies wanted to go catch some fish for the BBQ this weekend. What the heck let go fishing. Launch out of Sunset Aquatic at 5 am. Didn't look too good in the morning with the winds blowing from the north at 10knts. As we got out of the harbor it didn't look too bad. swell from 2 to 4 ft and a little wind, but still fishable. Headed out to nacho for some heathy dines and started fishing on the outside wall around the Bends area. Started to get bit right away. tony is a rookie so he fish the dines and right off the bat caught a nice calico. I personally like to fish plastic exclusively. In fact it was wide open on the johnny bass with a few sculpin, bass and cabezon mix in. Caught soo many lost count. 4 and 5 inch swimbait with anything red was the ticket. By now it was around 10am and the wind started to get wicked and down right nasty. Did catch a 28inch halibut on a swimbait, which is a fiirst for me.before we headed in at 12pm. Anyways the pics speak for themselves and not to shabby for half of a day fishing. Water temp all day was 65-67

Re: 5/27 long beach breakwall

Just a word of caution I would be real careful about eating too much off the wall, or much of anything out of Long beach harbor. Especially species that are there year round like spotties, just because of the VERY high contamination levels of these fish, especially mercury levels. I believe there is a 0 consumption on any fishes in long beach harbor and only 6 ounces per month (or longer) per 150lb person outside of long beach harbor (specifically the horseshoe is mentioned). You eat all of those guys between 3-6 people you are going to be WAY over those levels. Be careful.

Good catch and good day on the water.

Thanks for allthereplies. Just for clarifications, those were calico/sandbass. Heck no would i even think of keeping spotted bay bass. Personally i catch and release, but when rookies buy gas and food, they can keep anything they like! legally of course.

It's cool if he wants to keep them, as long as its legally and all, but I was just honestly given info on long beach harbor, some NASTY stuff floating in and around in there... A health thing, not a "dont kill spotties" thing

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Skeptical? Go ahead and chow down, enjoy your catch. When a third arm sprouts out of your head, no one will say "I told you so."

Then again, a third arm will make drinking while you fish easier.
