4/1 Sat Plan B- Catalina-Later report

[FULL TILT]

short version:
2 Yellowtail's
1 28" butt
a shitload of miscellaneous critters that couldnt say NO to candy

long winded, world-wide-waste, internet drama version:

hitched a ride on Eyeproblem's fishkiller along with ZZZZZ for some snipe hunting at SCI. splashed the boat at Dana Point and headed out in a light chop aimed at catalina with the intent to make squid and continue on to SCI later that evening.

spoke to Progress 1 (scott) and had some fresh intel on light boats and squid floats -thanks scott!! and really nice talking to you

arrived at cat around 1.30am and made our way down the lee side towards the long point area where we set up our squid light and began making squid 1 or 2 pieces at a time. and then it started to pick up:



the squid then got retarded and after a while, even our baitnets were working as crowders.:


about 3am we are plugged with bait and are underway for SCI. clear the corner and then start getting butt plowed by a major squal, rain, wind, and other unpretty conditions. decided to play it safe and seek cover at cat harbour.

after a quick break from the pounding, greg moves us back out to the fishing grounds where we set up a nice, steady chum line. as i am reaching for the charmin and contemplating my next move.....my clicker goes off and we are thinking WSB!!! fucker proceeds to kelp me and after a 20 minute standoff, i clear the kelp and lip grab a decent 8 lb yellow??? i'm thinking WTF over?!?!? this is a snipe hunt damnit!!! slap:

5 minutes later, greg is flylining a squirt, gets bit, cookie cutter:


spent the rest of the morning feeding the snipes our chum for nada until the wind picked up so bad we had to get back into Cat harbour.

spent the next 2 hours on the hook and managed to put 1- 28" butt on the boat for Brad, plus an assortment of other critters to keep us entertained.

ended the day with:
2 Yellowtail's
1 legal butt-3 releases
rattler, cabezon, reds and some other misc shit.

waiting for the wind to die, we ran into some hoodlums. they meant business and decided to sacrifice one of our crew (ZZZZZ) as a human fleshlight:


all in all, a kick ass trip...although we really wanted to be at SCI!!!

oh yeah- SCI guys: APRIL FOOLS!!!

and a serious shout out to everyone...especially FishnFool and Captamb1 for watching our backs. You guys rock!!!

thanks for the come backs doods. that squid float was sick! i have never witnessed squid so freekin thick in my entire life. really cool mother nature show that resulted in some fresh hamachi....gotta love that!!!
