News PL Kelp 01/04

The folks were down from Washington so I took them, a buddy and his son out to PL on 4REELS for a day on the water. Weather was beautiful and the water was calm. But the bite was slow. Caught a couple keeper sculpin and a few barber polls, small buts and mackrel. released all but two of the sculpin.

Re: PL Kelp 01/04

It was moving pretty quick and the wind has a huge effect on my boat due to the size. I dropped the hook in the kelp to hold me in place and all was good.

Re: PL Kelp 01/04

You guys use a trolling motor to get in and out of the kelp? If not how do you do it? Can I just drop the regular motor to get in and out?

Yeah, just avoid the thick shit and steer a course around what you can. If you get tangled, back-er-down and clear the prop. Make sure to keep an eye on the temp gauge to keep your intake clear. ...N

Re: PL Kelp 01/04

You have to watch the temps but its not usually a problem for me. My 24" props make a nice seaweed salad in my wake. Every once in a while I have to back down to get it off the rudders and blow it off the scupper for the bait tank...

Thanks for trail-blazing! I've probably followed 'em a couple of times at least. ...N
