L.J kelp Sat. 7/30

Wow what a mess! Strong winds and washing machine conditions early and did not stop. Not great conditions for a 14' boat. My son and I managed a few calico's at the south kelp and then slow trolled some dines at the north kelp for about an hour or so. Tried our ling hole on the way in but the wind and chop made it futile. Water was 65 at the MB channel and 72 at the north kelp.

Hey Calico

Not real big, the ones we kept (2) were about 3 - 3 1/2#. Perfect size for din din. We did see some big boils and a small school of small bonita at the north kelp. The yaks were like flies. It was hard trolling with so many of them out there. You have to constantly change directions. What a pain. Oh well, it's a free ocean!

That is why I was out after kelp fish. I like the minus tide early in the morning 4 - 6 for the corbina. Every other week works for the bines and kelp fish. Getting a little tired of waiting for the Yellowtail in the kelp. Quite a bit different than last year.
