Anyone ever fish the "Warm Water Jettie" in seal beach?

I used to fish there quite a few years ago (late 90's) and always picked up a grip of BUTT's. I was wondering if any of you ever stop by there and check it out?

My father and I used to fish there alot. Only for bonita though. When the bonita vanished from california coast we stopped fishing there. Now that their back on our coast, they might be working their way back in there. Go try the bridge closest to the ocean(I forgot the name). Flyline a frozen anchovie or a water bubble with a feather.

I fished there on my yak a few times last summer. Just inside the surf in the river mouth. Live smelt from Big Fish tackle put me into small halibuts and a few short WSB.

Is the area being described just East of the Los Alamitos Harbor entrance, and just West of the Municipal Pier?

If so, we have fished it a few times in the past, and caught a ton of short baraccuda. Lots of fun, but never a keeper.

Actually, I didnt think you could drop a kayak in there, acess to this place is on the right side of PCH if you are heading from Huntington, There is a small jettie (warm water jettie) then a very large jettie right next to eachother. So after leaving Huntington you will go over the bridge (main exit from HH) then I think it is the very next bridge usually 3-4 cars parked there at the fence and ppl fishing there.

I think it is used to cool the plant down or something so the water gets fairly warm.

I used to always get a grip of Halibut there, also as the tide goes down there are hundreds of octopus in there, we used to take em home and put em in our saltwater tanks only to find them stuck to the kitchen tile hour later.

Ray Bay

That place is named Ray Bay, It was named for its namesake. There were always
bat rays in there. I never fished it but I spent a lot of time surfing there in the
mid sixties. It was very popular especially in the wintertime. I think the water was
actually a lot warmer then. The old pump building was located right there on the site back then instead of up the channel. I remember seeing a lot of guys fishing it with treble hooks and actually snagged a lot of their fish. JJ

Thank you for the clarification. I do know the spot. However, I have never fished inside the surf zone, upriver. If you look at some of the charts you can see some wrecks upriver where the skipper mistook the San Gabriel River Channel for the Los Alamitos Channel. That is what we call an Ah Shi*!

Here is a link to the chart in question:

Might see you out there again when the water clears.

Regards,
Jim
