Here it is fellas! I got the itch to fish from working six days all through the holiday week. Since I am working six days again I thought it would be easier to head out on a 3/4 day boat. I made a last minute call to Point Loma Sportfishing and made a reservation for two. We fished the area between the Bull Ring and the Coronados for wide open sandbass!!! We had limits very quickly, I was crying all day while I was letting 4 to 6 pound sandies go because my son and I were limited out. The water was 66 to 67 and bait/birds were every where. I saw brown clouds of bait under the water as we pulled up on foaming birds. Towards the end of the day my son (Ryan 12) hooks up into a fish...he fights it all around the boat as the skipper follows him and I'm thinking "anothe big cuda", well 5 minutes later I see a 17lb white seabass being gaffed while I'm floored at what I see! He missed the jackpot by less than a half pound by a guy who caught his fist yellowtail and fought him for 25 minutes. I'm still stoked that my son ruled the day, and had the respect of every angler on board. The final ending to the day was very interesting...
At the begining of the day we were boarded by a Pacific Coast Fish Managery surveyer. They stated that he was not there to check limits but to just fill out surveys. The skipper aso stated what the limits were in Mexico. Actually this was said more than twice! Get the picture? Well there were two guys on the boat that were bagging every fish they pulled up, sandbass, barracuda, ect.. I think that there fish count was well over 56(for two)!!!! Well guess who was waiting at the dock when we got back??? You got it, Fish and Game had two officers on the dock before we got off the boat. I was wondering what that fine will be but I guess I'll never know.
Also for those of you who didn't hear, there was a fatal accident on the 4th in front of my house. I am still bummed by the fact that a father and his daughter(14) died while coming home to BBQ. Hug your kids and enjoy every moment!
