News 5/18 LJ/PM Mo' yak 'tail

Too nice of a day not to fish. I talked a friend into covering the end of my workday for me and bailed at 3 PM. Sunny and breezy and a 4 foot 4 second lump. My baitpump took a shlump so I caught one lil candy bar sized greenback and took him for a ride, flylined. I was heading straight into the WNW swell in about 90 feet (my meter crapped out too) just north of the point. Got hammered, Accurate clicker's like a chainsaw, I usually flip the clicker off and then into gear and swing but this was screaming so I fought it hollywood style. Into the spectra pretty quick, so now I have the sound of tearing cloth and a chainsaw, does it get any better than this. Fish finally stopped and worked it up. It just had that one run in it. Came up for an easy gaff, well as easy as it gets with an 8.5 stick on the yak.

Stayed out until sunset, dragging a big greenback, hoping for a WSB, nothing else except my twin brother, Mike's Yellowtail. Don't get to fish the other end of the day very often, glad I did today.

My God you are white. I would think with all the time you spend laying down in the kayak every day that you would at least color up a little .

I'm Irish!

Forgot to mention that the DFG was out there. Inflateable center console with a 90 Honda. He was cool, just checking licenses. Told him that I wish I had a spear when that huge black fish swam by.

I dunno. It would be interesting. Tuna vs tail? Quantity over quality right?

Nice, Ice

I am planning on trying the triple Sat am out there. I'll be travelling lite. No bait tank. Bare minimum tackle. 3 rods. Cooler in the van waiting to ice fishies. I'll take a burlap sack in the kayak to stuff with any friends that want to ride in the cooler
thanks for the great pics. Yellowtail have pretty eyes.

John, good luck on the LJ maiden voyage. Saturday is a work day for me. 3 rods will work for ya. I would tie a subsurface jig on one, like a Megabait or Ironman #3. Tie a sabiki on one and a 2/0 hook to flyline a mackeral. Catch a bait, pin it on. Slowtroll it, out of gear, clicker on, in the rodholder, 60 feet back or soak it while ya chuck the iron. The only thing eating the macs lately are the Yellowtail or WSB, unless you get to close to the kelp, a calico may grab it. If you lose that bait to a dog or fish, just go back to the kelp edge and get another. Rinse and repeat.

Exactly. Get 10 guys to take on the WCW top 10, combined team weight of biggest individuals fish in June. You guys can even use BPFED's magic scale
