Went out Sat for my first run/shakadown this year in Salt. Had a newbie onboard to pop his salt cherry. He liked it, and that's even with the shitty conditions. Wind was howling SATURDAY, and fucin COLD! I think the water was in the upper 50's in the am. We worked the bay in rough conditions for the most part, then went out to the kelp with the HUGE ROLLERS (we lasted about 5 minutes, before we headed for the Hotel Del area). Got several bites in the bay, however the Hookster could not land many, a lot of short strikes, I should have put on a stinger hook, anyway I only got 2 sand bass the whole day, and my partner got 1 sandie, and he release a short butt. Over by the Del, I got rocked so hard it bust my line. The drag was set a little to tight. Had it on for a whole 3 fucin second!
Got checked by DFG this time...how's that the first time out and already got checked. I'm a DFG, Coast Guard, SD Police magnet. Anywho, everything was cool as always when they boarded. Open the cooler and saw a 12 pack of coors, and decided to ask Birthday's even thou they were on our license that they had in their hand. That's cool, the Hookster turned 21 a day ago

. They were very strict. Going through everything. The boat ran well, and the coors did their job.
Someone was mention sporties fishing in the bay, well I saw one drifting between the bait barge, with no hookups. Watch them as I had just ran that same drift for zip. What was really bazarra is the newbie had to fish near the bridge, so I said what the hell. First of all I rarely fish that far back in the bay, because for one the farther back in the bay you go, the smaller the fish seems, but anywho, we get near the bridge and I see a sporty fishing beyond the bridge by the naval ships. I bet you that's where they picked up the spots, because spotties are thicker in the back bay than sandies. The thing is how many were legal size? Not saying they were not legal, but from past experiences I have found that a lot of fish are dinks back in that part of the bay.
Anyway, grab yo muthafucin pole, and go fishing!!!!!
