Navigationl Hazzard 209 Bank

There were at least a dozen 6' long 3" aluminum pipes floating right on the high spot at the 209 Bank today.

One took out our port wheel and ruined a planned weekend of fishing. Thankfully we made it back to Point Loma on one engine. Looked like a mine field out there with these things in the water.

I would say they rolled off a cargo ship...keep a sharp eye out folks and have a safe weekend.

Just noticed that Jason posted this on the underway board...thanks dude for getting the message out before I could get back and post it.

Those things do any more damage than just the prop or are you still in diagnosis mode? Bad luck and thanks for the heads up.

Anybody think of picking them up or sinking them? How would you feel if a boat got a hole punched in it and some kid died from hypothermia while waiting for rescue? Will other boats hit them too? Probably.

'It's Not My Job, Fuck You'

How's your Karma? It could get worse.
Not to mention scrap aluminum is about 40 cents a pound for non crv.$$$

Maybe they were just concerned about making it back in on 1 engine or hitting another one and taking out the other engine?or that there may have been more damage they could not see?Why dont you make your way out there and clean it up smuggler? thanks for the heads up swazi.

Yep.... I second that.... Poor guy had enough problems with damage to his prop and even the concern of possible shaft and hull damage as well.

Glad he made it back safe.... and sent out and posted the warning......

next time I'm on the freeway and run over a piece of shredded left over tractor trailer tire I'll pull over and run into the freeway and pick it up. I'll check my under carriage when I get home.
