Got to Dana launch ramp at around 8 or 8:30. Was getting the boat ready and some guy came over to bum a smoke. He said he robbed a bank and called to turn himself in and they were coming to pick him up. Thought, okay whatever. Finish getting the boat ready and the police show up, put him in cuffs and took him in. Anybody see that?
Launched the boat, I was uncertain as to how the day was going to go since I had the motor apart, replacing the head that was cracked, and all sorts of other stuff. I knew she ran but this was the first time back on the water in over a month. Well all my hard work paid off. The motor purred like a kitten. Got bait from EB then headed to my "secret honey hole" in LJ. Got to the spot and and circled to find the best anchor point. Dropped anchor and dropped line. First 15 minutes was slow, just a lot of small rockfish, and some decent reds.
Then I felt the old slam, slam, slam. Set the hook and I could tell right away it was a nice ling. Work him up from the bottom. Fish made a few short runs on the way up. Got him it in the boat and in the box.

My brother got slammed, then pulled up a nice red.
Then he dropped back down and pulled up the second legal ling. During the fight I pulled up a huge treefish that was ready to spawn so I put her back down, should have got a picture but, oh well.
Pulled up a couple more short lings, more reds and trees from that spot then it started slowing down, fish were on the meter but were not wanting to play anymore so we pulled anchor and went to a little deeper water. Found a spot and worked it for some little rockfish. Started throwing the lucanus on my bass rod for some nice sculpin and some alright trees.
Called it a short day and headed in to the hot ass east county heat. I was just glad I was lucky enough to be back out on the water during the heat.
So how was Day at the Docks?
