skunked but still fought fish

on sunday my friend hooked up a decent hali at the jetty(sd river side)i was a few hundred yards down from him and hes all yellin to me so go to see whats up.as im about 50ft away he says dude i got a fat hali but it broke my line when i lifted his head out.well he's a big puss about grabbing fish so i looked at it to size it up(about 10 people at dog beach are watching us by this point)and i know its legal so i decide to get him.he was tired and just resting still in about 1ft of water and trapped in a semicove so i pin him to a rock with my hand, still no movement.as soon as i grab under his gill with my other hand(while pinned with the other),he goes berserk.tail and body flappin crazy he tries to go in reverse to get away(kinda like a crawdad style)i grab his body and toss him in the cove area(basically in between jetty rocks)and repin him grab him good and it was a done deal.it turned out to be a 24" but very fat flattie.nice since i didnt catch anything and got a 21"last sunday.payback is a mother.weird how up and down the fishing has been this year.last thurs it was wide open, weekend slowed waaay down.
