| First Report from the RCH
This was the fifth trip since I bought the RCH. Our first trip resulted in a 28 lb. flattie that was netted by Beaker; so, no pics of the fish; only a bent net shot before it went into the live well. That slab was caught by my oldest who then proceeded to rant about how he caught...blah, blah, blah....out-fished the old man: on-and-on-and.....(he did too!). This bragging has been going on since he was five and may not end until I take that final long range trip to wherever dead fisherman go.
Anyway, this started as a report of yesterdays fun. We left HH late; ran to Nacho for finbait and squirts. Nice anchovies and sardines combined with a bonus short-pass of tubes (thanks guys). We ran outside of the doubles and found the bocaccio more than willing biters and bailed within ten minutes with limits of groupers...one each, thank you. It is too bad there are so few of them left. I hope we did not clean them out.
The next move was to Bolsa Chica reef. Saw some rich dudes in a nice Mako near the spot with a bent rod. Congratulated them on the catch and got the F/U attitude from them. Fired a lead head with squid and caught a nice 4-5 lb. twister. Next bait doubled the count with another 3 lbs. At that point, my bait pump died. We decided to try for checkers at the inside rigs for nothing and moved back outside for another round with the newly fresh-dead baits. Jim got on the board with another dandy sandy and we decided to call it a day.
As always, I enjoy fishing with Jim. He is as enthusiastic a fisherman now as when he hooked that first bonito. Water temperature was nearly 63 degrees and it is beginning to look fishy. Where are the skinnies?
